be.boosted at Stockholm Model United Nations 2014
Written by Rima-Maria Rahal
A long, long time ago, but we can still remember: the be.boosted team was part of the UN4MUN workshop at the UN headquarters in Vienna in the summer of 2013. Returning from this eye-opening experience, they did not only have many ideas for making MUN a better approximation of the UN itself in their luggage. They also brought with them a lasting friendship and cooperation with the Stockholm Model United Nations team.
For the second time now, the be.boosted team traveled to SMUN, to help spur the dream of making MUNs better simulations of the UN come true. With its newly designed set of Rules of Procedure (“The Stockholm Rules”), which the be.boosted team supported through drafting guidelines for their practical use and implemented first in SMUN 2013, SMUN is truly the closest a MUNer can get to simulating the United Nations. Naturally, founders Rima and Tobias had to be there to see the rules implemented again. Supporting thrilling debates scrutinizing the possibility for military interventions against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, the be.boosted team presided over the Security Council. Hardly ever had we heard such high-quality debates, and witnessed so meticulously prepared delegates. It was a true pleasure presiding of a committee showing this outstanding level of performance, while truly working with a fair and cooperative spirit. That made giving out awards a very tough decision! In the wee hours of the conference, the be.boosted team also trained the delegates in effective communication techniques and gave a prelecture on negotiating strategy. Five be.boosted workshops on topics such as efficient communication & negotiation, personal branding and others and three days of council sessions later, our team and the participants exhaustedly but contently looked back at the 10th anniversary edition of the conference.
Alas, after a MUN is before a MUN, so we can’t wait to see next year’s SMUN! In the meantime, we nostalgically nibble on IKEA-made oat cookies and fondly remember the Stockholm skyline, the talented delegates and great friends we’ve made in the SMUN team. How lucky we are to continue working on a transnational project proposal with the SMUN team, once they have recuperated from the exhausting conference week.
