![]() Written by Katrin Schmuck ![]() When I applied to become part of the be.boosted delegation to Harvard WorldMUN in 2013 (at the time still eMUN-fellows.net delegation), I expected to spend a week full of diplomacy, negotiations and fun in Brussels. What I actually got, was not just a week that helped me grow as a person but in fact whole five months. In the description of the project it said that training was part of the preparation for the conference. However, I had not expected to be boosted the way I was. During the online and offline sessions we held during the five months prior to WorldMUN, numerous topics were covered not only in great depth but also in a way that made it easy to apply the knowledge just gained. For example, during our first online sessions, we had talked about concepts for good speeches and practiced formulating speeches following certain patterns. When we met for our first offline session in Heidelberg, we combined the concepts with the second very important aspect of delivering speeches, body language. Thanks to this weekend, I am now more aware of my movements and how other people might perceive them. This did not only help a great deal when standing up and speaking in front of 400 delegates in the DISEC committee in Brussels, but way beyond that. I had mentioned to Project Director and be.boosted founder Tobias during my first ‘individual development call’ that a big struggle for me was to convey messages in a short, emphasized and precise manner. As we constantly reviewed my progress regarding this issue, I am now more confident in my ability to convey messages precisely. ![]() When I started my training and coaching with be.boosted, I was actually an intern in the department of Corporate Communication/Corporate Events at Deutsche Telekom, a multinational company. I immediately noticed the impact of the topics we covered during the be.boosted offline meetings on my work there. The annual Christmas Party for all Bonn-based employees is one of the biggest events of the year. I was given the chance and great responsibility to brief a great number of hostesses for that night. Due to my experiences and learning curve of the be.boosted offline meeting just a week before the event, I had great confidence in my ability to convey the all information concisely. My supervisors seemed to be very impressed with the way I was able to handle such great responsibility. Further on, I was given more tasks with similar responsibilities resulting in being invited to attend negotiations and meetings with partners, agencies and customers. In the second phase of my internship, I could apply a lot of the second block of the be.boosted training, negotiation skills and networking. I was given the opportunity to organize and attend numerous high profile conferences with managers from all over the globe including the evening events. In the process of organizing the conferences, I often had to solicit, analyze and negotiate offers. Concepts like distinguishing between positions and interests and building a the golden bridge that I had learned to apply during the second be.boosted offline meeting in January, helped me to fulfill the tasks with more confidence, fun and ultimately also with greater success. These are only a couple of examples of how be.boosted shaped my future by helping me to grow as a person. I could list numerous additional examples, but I hope you got a taste of how unique the be.boosted training program is. Being boosted by be.boosted is about all MUN skills, diplomatic thinking, negotiation skills, public speaking and growing as a person. The comprehensiveness of the project is also why I decided to keep working on be.boosted and help the project as well as the people involved grow further.
I can only recommend dipping your toes into the MUN-waters with us and I hope to see you on October 25 for our recruiting day in Munich and join us on our journey to Seoul! Here's how! Comments are closed.
